How to protect your online reputation

We live in a digital world. Before we do anything, we Google it. The same is true for your business. Before a client interacts with you, chances are, they Googled you. And clients Google you for a number of reasons. This is why it is very important to remember that your online reputation takes years to build up, but can be distroyed in a single comment or post.

  • To find out what your address or contact details are
  • To see what your office hours are
  • To find a price for your service or product
  • And perhaps the most scare, to find out what other clients think about you

Although you can’t control everything… I mean that old lady is going to complain on social media no matter what you do…

Online reputation

But there are a few things you need to have in place to protect yourself.

  1. Claim your business on everywhere

So, apparently there are businesses out there who still haven’t added there businesses to Google. Just do it already. This will sort out a lot of your problems. It will make you easier to find on Google Maps and in search queries. Remember to fill this in as thoroughly as possible. Add your contact details, address, and office hours.

But it does end there, make sure you open social media profiles. If you don’t want to use social media, still open these accounts, so that no one else can open it in your name. you can always change your mind later or keep it empty forever.

  1. Add great content to your website

Make sure that everything you put on your website is up to date, correct and written well. You control your website and you should not have any mistakes here.

  1. Do a search at least once a month

Take some time and Google your company. You will be amazed at what you might find out. Remember, this is what potential clients see when they Google you. If you do not like it, change it. The most important part will be to react when things are wrong.

Remember to search on search engines like Google, Bing and Safari, but also do a search on social media and online platforms like Hellopeter.

  1. Make it official

Make sure someone in your business is tasked with being responsible for checking your online reputation. If someone is responsible for it, chances are you will find out when there are problems a lot sooner. And it does not have to be a big thing, just a few searches on Google, social media and online review sites.

  1. Ask your clients to talk about you

If you have happy clients, ask them to talk about you on the internet. They can do it on social media, Google reviews or you can put it on your own website. But get them to sing your praise.
